Abstract

Fusarium wilt disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum is one of the main pathogens that attacks chili pepper plants (Capsicum frutescens). This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of three antagonistic fungi: Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae, and Trichoderma harzianum, in suppressing the development of Fusarium wilt in cayenne pepper plants. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse using a randomized block design with 11 treatments, including negative and positive controls. Observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, number of wilted and yellow leaves, number of fruits, root weight, and root length. ANOVA test statistics show that there are real differences in the parameters of plant height, wilted leaves, number of fruits, root weight and root length with a p value <0.05, so a Duncan test was carried out. The results showed that the application of Trichoderma harzianum reduced disease intensity, followed by Metarhizium anisopliae and Beauveria bassiana, compared to the positive control without treatment. All three antagonistic fungi also showed a positive effect on plant growth. In conclusion, Trichoderma harzianum is the most effective biocontrol agent for controlling Fusarium wilt in cayenne pepper plants and can be developed as an environmentally friendly solution for plant disease management.
